Oliver was a labour in a factory of toys. His work was to fix the damaged toys. He did his work with full enthusiasm, but his boss was not as good as him. He was always cruel towards him. The reason was Oliver was the most hard working person and did his work honestly which led the higher authorities think that he was more responsible than Mr. Brown(Oliver’s boss). Mr. Brown was really very jealous of Oliver and hence always found a way to insult him. Despite of all these things, Oliver never got disappointed because his only happiness was his 7 year old daughter Eva.

Oliver loved his daughter more than anything else. Eva lost her mother when she was 4 years old, but, Oliver never failed to give her the love of both. The only thing which he was not able to fulfil was Eva’s dream of getting that pretty doll which was expensive too, mind you. Every friend of Eva had that doll and she wanted it too. She told Oliver to bring her that doll. Oliver said that he has been collecting money for the same from past 4 months and now since it was Eva’s birthday in a couple of weeks, he promised her to get that doll. Nothing could make Eva happier.

One day when Oliver was on his way to the factory, he saw a man met with an accident and no one was ready to look at him. Oliver looked at him and saw his clothes. By this time, he was sure that the man was very poor and since no one was waiting to help him, he decided to take him to the nearby hospital. When he took him to the hospital, the doctor said that they might need a lot of money to save him. There was no one Oliver knew who could pay for the man. He saw the situation and decided to pay the money which he saved for Eva’s doll. He saved the poor man’s life.

But now what? He promised Eva to give her the present she desired on the birthday. Oliver made his mind to do overtime and get some more money. But unfortunately, even if Oliver did overtime, he was not paid a single penny more by Mr. Brown. The reason is quite obvious, you know.

One night, when Oliver was on his way back home, he noticed a restaurant having a poster asking for new worker for night shift.

He was too happy to see that. He went inside, talked to the owner and guess what job he got…Washing utensils. He took the job happily because he wanted a smile on his daughter’s face. He worked hard for it and eventually made money for the doll and bought that doll on Eva’s birthday. Eva got a lot of gifts but, the one she got from her father was the most precious one for her.

Eva never got to know what her father did for buying that doll but we know. Like Oliver, our fathers do a lot for us. This is the day to thank them all for the sacrifices they do to just see us smile.

Some lines in Hindi which I came across and which touched me…

Pita roti hai, kapda hai, makaan hai…

Pita nanhe se parinde ka bada aasmaan hai…

Pita hai to bacchon k saare sapnein hain…

Pita hai to bazaar k saare khilaune apne hain…

Happy Father’s Day!!
